The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry strongly condemns the heinous attack that took place in Male’ City on the 6th of May 2021 targeting Speaker of Majlis, President Mohamed Nasheed. This attack which took place during the holy month of Ramadan has injured the Speaker of Majlis, President Mohamed Nasheed and at least 4 other people. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those harmed in this incident and we wish them all a speedy recovery.

This was an attack on our democracy, economy and very way of life. Terrorism in all its forms is criminal and unjustifiable. We stand united with the Government and our fellow Maldivians in the fight against it.

We hope and pray that the perpetrators of this attack are swiftly arrested and brought to justice and that we send an unwavering signal of zero tolerance towards such cowardly acts. Maywe continue to be a nation with long-held values for peace and dignity for all human life.
