LUX* South Ari Atoll in collaboration with the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), conducted the 13th session of the Discover Tourism: Exploring Career Pathways programme on Sunday, 7 June 2026. The day brought together students from Grades 6, 7, and 8 of Adh. Dhigurah School and Adh. Atoll School (formerly Adh. Maamigili School) for a full-day introduction to resort hospitality and tourism careers.
The programme commenced with a Resort Discovery Tour of the west side of LUX* South Ari Atoll, guided by Maanie, TQA Supervisor, giving students an introduction to the resort’s unique guest experiences, including the Wanderlust Library, Junk Art Studio, and Phone Home and the philosophy behind the LUX* brand.
Participants then engaged in a Culinary Experience led by Avijit, Executive Sous Chef, and his team. The session included a behind-the-scenes tour of the resort’s kitchen facilities, followed by a hands-on Pizza Making Experience, offering students a direct insight into the skills and teamwork required in professional culinary environments.
The afternoon portion of the morning featured a Food and Beverage Service Experience, an interactive session facilitated by Nishad, Restaurant Manager, and his team. Students were introduced to table setup, ICI service standards, and mocktail preparation, gaining practical exposure to front-of-house service operations.
Following lunch, students participated in a Housekeeping Experience led by Najah, Executive Housekeeper. The session featured a villa showcase demonstrating guest arrival standards, room presentation protocols, and a towel art demonstration, highlighting the craft and attention to detail that defines luxury resort accommodation.
Students also attended a Front Office Experience presented by Rifath, Assistant Front Office Manager, covering the full guest journey and the operational role of the front office in delivering a seamless guest experience from arrival to departure.
In a highlight of the day, students were introduced to LUX* South Ari Atoll’s Circle of Care: Coral Plantation Project by Mark, Marine Biologist. The session covered the resort’s coral conservation initiatives and offered students the opportunity to participate in reef restoration activities, underscoring the growing role of environmental stewardship within the tourism industry.
The Discover Tourism: Exploring Career Pathways programme is a flagship MATI initiative that provides Maldivian school students with immersive, firsthand exposure to the tourism industry. To date, the programme has been delivered in partnership with member resorts and other member entities engaged across the tourism value chain, spanning multiple atolls.
