Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) signs a Memorandum of Understanding on Joint Tourism Cooperation with China Association of Travel Services (CATS)
Senior representatives of MATI participated at the Forum on China Maldives Tourism Cooperation held yesterday at Kurumba Maldives which included the signing of an MoU on joint tourism cooperation between Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) and China Association of Travel Services (CATS) for a period of 3 years.
The MoU seeks to enhance cooperation between Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) and China Association of Travel Services (CATS) in order to increase tourism promotion, safety standards as well as quality and training.
Mr. Ahmed Nazeer, Secretary General of Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) signed on behalf of MATI and Ms. Sun Guizhen, the Secretary General of China Association of Travel Services (CATS) signed on behalf of CATS. The signing was also attended by Mr. Salah Shihab, Vice Chairman of MATI.
The forum was attended by H.E. Mr. Moosa Zameer, Minister of Tourism, Mr. Du Jiang representing Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China along with other senior officials of Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, H.E. Mr. Zhang Lizhong, Chinese Ambassador to Maldives, Senior officials of Ministry of Tourism (MOT), Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), MATI, CATS and other private sector tourism related stakeholders and government officials. More than 100 high level delegates from China and 60 tourism-related representatives from Maldives took part in this event.
This is the first forum on tourism promotion in China to be held in Maldives. It is also worth noting, that it is also the first time that the Chinese government has sent a high level official to participate in such an event. Mr. Du Jiang of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China is a deputy Ministerial level official. His participation in this event is a significant endorsement by the Chinese Government on tourism promotion in Maldives for the Chinese market.
The forum also included 2 panel discussions which focused on promotional opportunities and investment opportunities. The first panel was moderated by Ms. Jiang Yiyi, Director and Researcher from the Institute of International Tourism Development of China Tourism Academy and the second panel was moderated Mr. Abdulla Ghiyas, President, Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO).
Mr. Iyaz Waheed, Executive Board Member of MATI and Ms. Zulaikha Manik, Executive Board Member of MATI participated as panel members in the first panel discussion titled “Promote exchange of visit, enhance exchange of information and push cooperation between China and Maldives.
The second panel titled “Tourism Investment Opportunities” focused on new tourism related development opportunities and frameworks. The panel included Mr. Zaaid Ahmed, Senior Policy Executive and Legal Counsel of the Ministry of Tourism (MOT) and Mr. Mohamed Shahid, Managing Director of Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC).
